This healthy brown colored black bear has been seen on Pine Avenue and by the Coal Creek bridge. Bears will travel great distances in search of food. Here is a great example of a Fernie bear just passing through a backyard. There is nothing in the backyard to entice him to stay (garbage, dirty BBQ, bird feeders and other attractants). Remove the garbage and other attractants and bears will move on to the wilderness where there is plenty of natural food.
Working together and bear proofing our properties will result in a cleaner and safer community for both people and bears. For more information on preventing human/wildlife conflict go to www.wildsafebc.com
